The Santa Barbara Newcomers Club has for many years participated in Old Spanish Days, and this carriage-decorating
event is one example. Seemingly millions of flowers are donated by local businesses,
and the Newcomers (who this year invited The Graduates to join them) are out in force in 2002!
The "carriages" are in many cases authentic stagecoaches which carried people and mail and cargo up and down the mountains and
through countless western films! They are horse-drawn down the main street of Santa Barbara in a huge parade the day following the decorating.
Another of the unique events and opportunities for fun in Santa Barbara.

The event gets underway after a few margaritas -- Cindy Lomonaco works an arrangement while her "team" gathers flowers form the bounty visible here.

Ellen and Bob Lilley are enjoying their fourth (fifth?!) session of decorating -- Ellen, at least, seems to be getting GOOD at it!

Darlene Amundsen, Berkeley Meigs and Mike McCaleb select and trim and arrange...Is that George Wolverton back there, along with a bunch of Graduates and Newcomers?

Santi Visalli is just an artist, in whatever medium!

Peter Tredick, Lee Koranda and others add strength to a carriage arrangement.

One of the Directors of the Old Spanish Days Festival, Kathleen Nolan has been our inspiration and guidance throughout.
