------ July 4 Celebration on the Mesa! ------

Independence Day - Social 'n' Fireworks! Graduates gathered at the Spanish-style home of Jane and Ron Freund for the 4th of July on the Mesa.  They shared their 30-year collection of antique advertising.  Also of special interest were be the unique art pieces that Jane has created for their home on Santa Barbara's Mesa.

When:  7 to 9 at the Freunds' home, then a walk over to the City College to watch the fireworks, dressed for evening at the beach - breezy and cool.

Fun stuff: Dress in red, white and blue! The hors-d'oeuvres were either be naturally red, white and/or blue, or were decorated that way.

You'll see the fun in the pictures, below!

Another view of Ellen and Joyce's conversation, with a hint of the view from the Freunds' Mesa location! The "person" in the lower right is not real...Everyone speaks to him when arriving, anyway.

Jerry Aspen and Syd Dromgoole get started...

...as does Dick Miller.

Now, this is generally creative milling about, after announcement of The Group Picture... Patty, Hermine, Joyce, Judy, Jerry and Richard seem to have thius maneuver well rehearsed. Jerry seems a little skeptical...

P7041109.jpg
The 'milling' is reaching critical mass now...

P7041110.jpg
...better and better...

Move back a little...a little further...just a little more...Ellen Lilley does the honors

This is known as 'strolling about the grounds until you feel at home'...in recovery after The Group Picture -- this time onn the Freunds' lovely grounds.

P7041119.jpg
After seeing all the nice artifacts in the Freunds' collection, I photographed this Mourning Dove near their front door. As it turned out, the dove is not an artifact -- it flew away when the camera clicked.

P7041120.jpg
Ok -- these are FRIGITS -- Look them up with a "Google" search on the web. The set is about $30 and it is strongly addictive. A classic Rube Goldberg marble machine, much like the fabled clock at Santa Barbara Airport...great for grandkids --and 'dads!

P7041121.jpg
Remember these? This one works, but only if you put money in. I did not see anyone try it!

P7041122.jpg
This picture of Paul Newman has seen many incarnations; it used to be on sewatshirts at Ohio University, where Paul went to school briefly.Special Anniversary Banquet Dinner for $1.39? ...or is that $139 ?!

P7041123.jpg
The dessert table offers sweets and strawberries and other red/white/blue goodies -- Lemesee now -- blue food? Blueberries, I guess... Look at those convention skimmers!

P7041124.jpg
By now you know most of the names, so look at the FLOOR! Spatter-paint with a vengeance - The Freunds' collection and its display is unique and fun in many ways!

P7041125.jpg
It turns out July 4 is our hostess' birthday anniversary! Cake and candles and all

P7041126.jpg
Make a wish...

P7041127.jpg
Oooh! Those are trick candles!

We all walked down to the SB City College kawn to watch the city fireworks show at the harbor. This scene shows part of the waterfront and the ocean horizon with its offshore platforms lined up.
