The McMenemy Trail is a connector trail between the San Ysidro Canyon and Hot Springs Canyon.
The trail leads over the ridge between the two canyons to meadows and scenic overlooks.
It then descends into Hot Springs Canyon below Montecito Peak. We started at the San Ysidro trailhead.

When and Where: Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 9 a.m. Drive on 101 to the San Ysidro Road exit. Drive one mile north to
East Valley Road and turn right. Continue 0.8 miles to Park Lane and turn left.
Drive 0.3 miles to East Mountain Drive and bear to the left.
The trailhead is 0.2 miles ahead on the right. Park along East Mountain Drive.

Helpful hints: Be sure to bring a hat and drinking water (just in case the “June Gloom" disappears at the end of June!).
Allow two to two and one-half hours for the hike.

Cost: None except that we stopped at the Montecito Upper Village for lunch.

The hike was excellent, with some shady spots along the San Ysidro trail leading to the McMenemy trail, then a steep climb and descent on the exposed, sunny hillside. The views at the top were well worth the effort! -- We hurried right to brunch afterward.
