The Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network - Garden Party - August 29, 4:00 to 6:00 PM

Berkeley Meigs and Mike McCaleb extended this
invitation to The Graduates and Newcomers:

A Garden Party, Honoring the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network

Sunday, August 29, 2004

This was an elegant garden party, to learn about Santa Barbara's Wildlife Care Network
and the new center for injured and orphaned wildlife
in our area.

Part of the large audience takes an interest in the 'Possum...
This was such a nice event! A good crowd of Graduates and others, wonderful food and drink, and a thoughtful presentation by the Wildlife Care Network people. Yes, it was a fund-raiser, and there was a very successful raffle, but the stars of the show were the rescued animals who made an appearance and a real hit.

See the photos below and to the right, by Mike Edwards, a Wildlife Care Network board member.

...and the young raccoon "works the room".
Have you ever rescued a baby bird fallen from a nest?  Seen an injured seabird at the beach? Found a tiny orphaned baby raccoon, possum, coyote, red fox, or deer? Did you know there was someone you could call for immediate help?   All of our local wildlife can suffer from the influence of our presence in their home territory.

We are fortunate to have the Wildlife Care Network in our area to turn to for help.  The dedicated volunteers there will pick up, care for, rehabilitate, and set free injured and orphaned wild creatures. This wonderful organization welcomes volunteers who can spend an hour or two each week helping to feed and care for these precious members of our community.  The Wildlife Care Network has recently purchased a beautiful site at the north end of Fairview for a permanent center, which will ultimately include a pond for seabirds, aviaries for birds being prepared for release, a hospital and  intensive care unit for baby birds and mammals, enclosures for mammals being rehabilitated, and educational facilities to teach our young people about compassion and conservation.

We enjoyed champagne and appetizers in a lovely, seaside garden setting, while learning about the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network s new center and opportunities for volunteering or for help when needed.

Graduate Simone Schapker handled reservations for this special event.
