The Great Gatsby Party - Sunday, October 3, 4:00 to 7:00 PM

The Gatsby is the Graduates' "Dress-Whites" event of the year!
You are cordially invited...
Wear all white!

Please read the whole invitation for all the details and a surprise at the end.

THE ANNUAL “GREAT GATSBY” GARDEN PARTY!
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3RD, 4 - 7 PM

The Grand Prize Winners for the Great Gatsby Party are Marilyn Conrad and Norm Jacobs. We will all be looking forward to their arrival with The Bielens. This will be quite a sight with the four of them all decked out in their white finery and riding through town in the beautiful car. (A picture of the car is on the web site...........as you all, of course, know by now!)

Remember, we will each be able to have our pictures taken with the Bielens, their beautiful car, and maybe even a glass of champagne to toast this wonderful event.
See you Sunday.

Once again let us step back in time and enter the fashionable, frivolous world of Gatsby’s Roaring Twenties. Sip Champagne on the spacious lawn overlooking the blue Pacific. Admire the “white” fashion creations of your elegant friends. Listen to music of the period, as well as requests, by the wonderful Steve Woods.

What to wear: Anything goes, as long as it’s all white! Hats and even gloves are encouraged! Do wear comfortable shoes for on the lawn and remember a wrap. (We don’t think it will be in the 90’s in October)

Where to go: Santa Barbara’s Elite Graduates will gather on Sunday, October 3rd from 4 to 7 PM at the home of Berkeley and Mike.  What to bring: Please bring your most elegant hors d’oeuvres to share, and the beverage of your choice. No desserts please. They will be supplied. (Please identify your own beverage with a name label!)  Sparkling water will be available and, of course, a glass of Champagne!

How to get on board: E-mail or call Carol Lazar for reservations. Email anytime or call her cell after 9 PM or anytime on weekends.

Reservations: Numbers are limited, so reserve early. Cost is $10.00 per person. After confirmation, mail your check made out to Michael Koelsch, to Carole Lazar.

As long as space is available, reservations will be accepted with checks postmarked by September 29th. If you must cancel, please call as early as possible, since there has always been a wait list for this event.

**Checks postmarked by September 24th
will be entered into a drawing.
The winner of the drawing* will be taken
to and from the event in Gary Beilen’s
wonderful vintage car!

( * It's Marilyn Conrad and Norm Jacobs!)

Gatsby, Jay
Age: 23
Source: Racketeering
Net Worth: $600 Million
Hometown: West Egg, N.Y.
Marital Status: Single
Born James Gatz in North Dakota, built mysterious fortune through association with gamblers and bootleggers. Modern day Trimalchio, enjoys entertaining neighbors at Long Island estate modeled after Normandy's Hotel de Ville. Measures extravagance with crates of oranges and lemons. One colleague says Jay "would never so much look at a friend's wife." Some have proof otherwise. With no legitimate business, critics say life of leisure will be the death of him. Learned the value of a dollar from silver baron Dan Cody. Served briefly in World War I. Adhered as teenager to rigorous daily schedule of study and sport. An avid sailor. Member since 1925. --Ari Weinberg

also,
Trimalchio is a character in the Roman "novel" The Satyricon by Petronius. He was a gaudy, fat man... newly rich and taken to extreme excess. But lovable, in a sort of Falstavian way.
