Wildflower and Birding Hike
April 2, 2005 - 9AM
---
|
Due to our recent rains, this is one of the very best years for wildflowers
in our area. The Poppies and Lupines on Figuroa Mountain are spectacular,
and there are numerous other wildflowers in the area. One large field of
flowers can be viewed as we drive, and at the top we will have an
easy hike to identify a broad array of other wildflowers and plants. We
will also be looking for birds so be sure to bring your binoculars. Bring
plenty of water and your own lunch for a picnic.
The trip will be led by Norm Jacobs who knows something about wildflowers
and plants, and Peter Beuret who knows the birds.
DATE: April 2, 2005. TIME: 9:00
AM
MEETING PLACE: We will meet for caravaning and car-pooling at
the small lot just north of Big Five Sporting Goods (3935 State St.......intersection
of State Street and Highway 154. Look for Norm's Champagne-colored VW Camper.)
BRING: Comfortable shoes for hiking, a jacket, water, your own
gourmet lunch with perhaps some finger food of interest to share, a drink
and binoculars. For those with a special interest there is an excellent
"Field Guide to Common Plants of the Santa Barbara Foothills" published
just this year and available at Borders Bookstore. Also, a camera!
RETURN TO SANTA BARBARA: Early to mid-afternoon at your discretion
