Hiking with the Santa Barbara Newcomers
Carpinteria Bluffs
When: Saturday, February 18, 9:30am (in Carpenteria)
Description: Suitable
for babies in strollers, and moms and dads and grandparents too! Carpinteria is the “last” real beach town in California. If
you haven’t explored it, here is your chance after a leisurely hike on the Carpinteria Bluffs to see the baby seals. We’ll walk along
the beach, or the paved road, past the lagoon with nesting waterfowl; visit a
small but real tar pit. (See that bubbling crude, just a-bubbling out of the
ground.) Explore the small geological formations that dot the beach, admire the
wild flowers and view the baby Harbor seals at the bluffs above the rookery.
Reservations: None. Heavy rain cancels.
Cost: None. Bring water
and lunch/snacks for yourself.
Where: Carpenteria. To carpool, meet at the Bank of America
parking lot on upper State St (at Hope Ave) at 8:45am. Leave in carpools at 9:00am sharp.
Directions: Hwy.
101 south to Carpinteria. Exit Linden
Ave, turn right, head for the beach. Park
in the Amtrak parking lot, on the right side, one block from the beach.
We’ll meet at the lifeguard’s shack at the end of Linden
Ave where it meets the sand.
