Hiking - Cold Springs Trail
When: Sat. March 18, 2006 9:30am at Bank
of America parking lot. We leave at 9:40am from the B of A for the trailhead
described above. We’ll hike immediately upon reaching the trailhead.
Cost: None. Bring water, and optional lunch/snacks
for yourself
Description: The loop is actually a Santa
Barbara Park and it’s a favorite you won’t want to miss! Thick canopies
of Live Oak and Alder trees frame your view of running waterfalls and glistening
pools. We’ll cross the stream a few times by stepping on uneven boulders.
The basic loop is approx. 3 miles with 600 ft. elevation gain. Stunning
views. Moderately strenuous hike. [Another 500 ft. of additional
elevation is an additional optional hike.] Water, snacks, sturdy shoes
or hiking boots, hat, and a light jacket or pullover, is recommended. For

Directions: From the southbound exit 101
at Olive Mill Rd., turn left onto Olive Mill Rd. Go over the freeway toward
the mountains. [From the northbound off-ramp, turn right onto Olive Mill
Rd.] Half a mile up, you will come to a stop sign where Olive Mill turns
into Hot Springs Rd. Go straight at the stop sign to continue heading north
on Hot Springs Rd. Follow Hot Springs Rd. for another mile and a quarter.
Turn Left onto East Mountain Dr. Follow East Mountain Dr. as it winds
around the mountain for approximately one mile. The East Cold Springs trailhead
(the one we’ll be using) is on the right side of the road as your facing
the mountain. You will see places to park alongside the road on either
side of the trailhead. The Trailheads begin on either side of the stream
which crosses over the road.
Or - you can easily meet at the Bank of America
Parking lot on Hope Ave. near State St. at 9:30 am. The leaders of the
group will be there to great you until 9:40. Then we’ll head for the Cold
Springs trailhead.
