Graduates:
This event was arranged by Ed and Betty Venable. Group tours are small and two dates have been provided at this time. If there is additional interest, or if you prefer a date not listed, ask Ed about additional dates. This sounds like fun, especially if we can get some sunshine. Ranger Sunset Cruises : When: Wednesday, June 14, 5pm to 7pm; Tuesday July 11, 5pm to 7pm. Other dates may also be arranged, depending on the tide and crew availability. Description: The SB Maritime Museum and its Captain Ed Venable (a Graduate) have generously offered The Graduates an opportunity this summer to cruise along the SB coast aboard the Ranger. These excursions received rave reviews last year from others, and provide a great opportunity for The Graduates to see the shoreline and mountains from a different perspective, while also inspecting a floating Museum exhibit. Ranger is a 46-ft sport-fishing boat built in 1917 and donated to the Museum several years ago. The first private sport-fishing boat made on the West Coast, she was the flagship for the Catalina Island Tuna Club. The builder and owner was an avid fisherman in the waters of Southern California and Hawaii, and Ranger set many records, two of which still stand today for tuna and broad-bill swordfish. Ranger is a classic design of the era: large varnished deck house, fantail stern, a large fishing cockpit, and comfortable accommodations below deck for the occasional overnighter. Passengers should wear soft-soled shoes, bring a jacket, and are encouraged to bring a beverage of choice and an easily-passed snack to share (no dips or potato chips please). To encourage a future visit to and support of the SBMM, each passenger will also receive an entry pass. Most of the Museum exhibits are historically linked to early and modern SB. Exhibits range from Chumash Indian and Channel Island history to new simulators to test your fishing and navigational skills. Reservations: Yes. Each cruise will include 6-8 passengers (plus crew). Make reservations individually to meet more Graduates, or create your own group of 6 or more for a private cruise. Email or Call: Please provide a phone number and your preferred date. Contact : Ed or Betty Venable, 805-884-4973 or edvenable@cox.net. Where: The dock in front of the SB Maritime Museum, 113 Harbor Way, SB Waterfront. |
