The Tunnel Trail - May 12, 2007
The climb to the summit is
along a well-maintained trail with wonderful views and only a short distance
of steep incline. A moderately easy hike of 3.6 miles round trip and 800
foot elevation gain. Last time out, we made it to the top in just an hour.
Reservations: RSVP, please,
to eldend3@cox.net, so we know how
to plan the carpooling. Rain
cancels.
Family and friends: Welcome!
Cost: None, except
for the optional brunch, on your own, at a place we'll choose during the
hike.
Arrangements: Meet
Elden Dellanina and Bob Lilley at the S.B. Mission parking area at 8:30
AM to carpool.
If you want to drive yourself,
here are the directions. Carpooling (see above) is recommended due to very
limited parking and sensitive neighbors.
From the Santa Barbara Mission,
take Mission Canyon Road to Foothill Road. Turn right on Foothill Road,
go 0.2 miles, then turn left at the fire station onto Mission Canyon Road.
At the distinct V-intersection, veer left onto Tunnel Road and go 1.2 miles
to the end of the road. Park on the right side of the road. DO NOT DRIVE
BEYOND THE 'NO PARKING' SIGN. Parking is limited, so try to car-pool, and
park ONLY in designated areas or you will be ticketed. They're serious
about this!
Hike up to the end of the
road by the large water tank and metal gate across the road. This is the
trailhead. We'll start the hike from here at 9:00. |
