A Peek at the Santa Barbara Club, with SBNC: June 8, 6pm

Graduate Dottie Milici brings us this unique event that SB Newcomers is hosting on June 8th. Their Local Heritage Committee has arranged to hold a combined social and Local Heritage event at the Santa Barbara Club --and the Graduates are invited!

The announcement below is from the Newcomers' Newsletter. The Graduates should follow the same instructions as the Newcomers in terms of reserving a space and sending payment.  There is a limit of 50 attendees, so it will be first come, first served.  Please call or email Lesley Powles with any questions.

LOCAL HERITAGE
A Peek into the Santa Barbara Club

When: Friday, June 8th, 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Description: During the winter of 1890, local ranchers and businessmen began sharing drinks and tales with wealthy industrialists from the East who were staying for the season at Santa Barbara's posh Arlington Hotel. With horses being a common interest, a loose sort of brotherhood formed known as the "Arlington Jockey Club." In this vein, the Santa Barbara Club was formally established in 1892. It is the oldest club in Santa Barbara, and is believed to be the oldest social club between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Club members moved into the Club’s finely-appointed, two-story clubhouse in 1904, designed by architect Francis Wilson.

We will have hors d’oeuvres and a no-host bar will be available.  Club members will be on hand to give us a tour and history of this seldom-viewed part of our local heritage.

Reservations: Yes. Limited to 50

Call or Email Beginning:  9am, Monday, May 28th.
