An afternoon at the
polo matches!
|
Picnic and Polo with The Graduates!
Join us for an afternoon at the Polo Fields and enjoy a picnic-box lunch
made up of a variety of salads, a dinner roll and cookies for dessert.
Part of the group's enjoyment will be receiving sparkling wine from a picnic
table extension from the boot of Garrison Bielen's vintage Rolls-Royce.
Remember to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and please be prepared
with sun protection. Polo, after all, occurs in wide-open spaces!
Where: The Polo Fields in Carpinteria. Enter the Polo Fields
at the Field 3 gate at the corner of Nidever Road and Via Real. You
might want to bring a chair and an umbrella as we will be in the sun.
There's a possibility there could be some chairs and umbrellas for rent.
When: Sunday, August 23rd
Time: 12:30 P.M. The games start at 1 P.M., but I have
requested to have a staff member speak to us about the rules of the game.
If this can be arranged, we need to be there by 12:30. The program
you receive when you enter the field will have some printed rules of the
game.
Cost: $15 for lunch and sparking wine. You will pay an
entrance fee of $10 per person when you drive in the Polo Field area.
Reservations: Please call or e-mail Laura Newman. After
confirmation, mail your check for $15, made out to The Graduates, to Laura
Newman. Checks must be received by Aug. 19th. No cancellations
after that date. |

The graduates spent a mostly sunny day at the polo matches sipping champagne along with a delicious box lunch topped off with cookies. Gary & Kathy Bielen brought their luxury Rolls Royce for a tailgate party. However, the ground officials would not allow any cars on the grounds so we had our tailgate party at the tables and chairs supplied by the polo club. We were situated on the opposite side of the playing field from the grand stands along with several other groups also picnicing affording us a great view of the polo matches. Few of us knew anything about the game of polo but with the help of broachers passed out by the polo club and some explanation by Gary Bielen
who has played polo we learned something about the game.
A committee headed by Darlene Amundsen with help from Don & Laura Newman and Doris Frey made for a delightful day.
Those in attendance were: Elizabeth Foster, Roger Hoyt, Bob & Dianne Miles, Dottie Milici, Jennifer & Michael Purdy, Merris Yarbro & Ceil McGuire, Ron & Ellie Freese, John & Joan Calder, Linda & Richard Ring, Kathy & Garrison Bielen, Ellen & Bob Lilley, Madeleine Kern, Dianne Karls, Nan & Dave Holt and Mary Ann Langworthy
