Sunset Cruises on
the Ranger -- 2010!
|
The SB Maritime Museum (SBMM)
is again offering Graduates opportunities to cruise along the SB coast
throughout the summer and fall aboard the Ranger. This is a chance to see
the shoreline and mountains from a different perspective, while also inspecting
a floating Museum exhibit. Ranger is a 42-ft sport-fishing boat built in
1917 and refurbished with SBMM donations. She is a classic design of the
era with large varnished deckhouse, fantail stern, and fishing cockpit.
Each cruise is limited to 6
passengers, with pre-arranged groups preferred. You are encouraged to bring
beverages and easily-passed snacks to share (no dips or potato chips please).
The cruising season has been delayed this year because of the chilly, windy
spring. But June's warmer weather and high evening tides make it an ideal
time to take your first trip or gather friends from previous trips for
another party on the water. You will also receive an entry pass to the
SBMM.
Passengers should wear soft-soled
shoes and bring a jacket. All passengers must be able to climb steps and
walk on the deck of a moving boat unaided, if necessary.
When: Suggested dates
are Sunday, June 13, and Thursday, June 24, both 5 to 7pm. Other dates
and times, including weekend mid-day cruises, can be arranged for parties
of 6.
Possible July dates for sunset
cruises include July 6 - 9 and 20 - 23.
Contact: Email Kathy Weber to reserve a cruise date.
Cost: $15 per passenger.
After confirmation, send checks payable to SBMM Ranger Fund to Bill Weber. Payment must be received at least a week prior to your cruise to
hold the reservation.
Meet: At the dock in
front of the SBMM, 113 Harbor Way, SB Waterfront 15 minutes prior to cruise.
Directions: From the
north, exit 101 Fwy at Castillo, and go toward the ocean to Cabrillo/Shoreline
Dr. Turn right on Shoreline and then left on Harbor Way. The SB Marina
entrance is on the left. From the south, exit at Bath, turn left at Haley
and left again at Castillo, and proceed as above. There are city parking
lots on both sides of Harbor Way, with some free spaces for 90 minutes
until 6 pm and unrestricted after 6 pm. Other parking is available for
a fee. The SBMM is the large white building on the walkway toward the breakwater,
and Ranger is at the dock in front.
