Romero
Canyon Trail, November 13, 8:30 AM
There will be a hike Saturday,
November 13. Meet at 8:30am at the Montecito Upper Village just off East
Valley Rd. We take our time hiking so it should work for everyone.
Call
Elden Dellanina if you can make the hike, so we know how many to plan
for car pooling.
Directions: From Santa
Barbara - Go South on 101- Take San Ysidro Rd. toward the Mountains.
Go to East Valley Rd. At the traffic light, make a left turn, then
an almost immediate left turn again into the parking lot, which has tenants
such as S.B. Bank and Trust, Via Vai Restaurant. We will car pool to the
trail head.
Romero
Canyon is
a popular destination for hikers and mountainbikers. The trail is shady
and along a creek bed for the first half. In season, there is a strong
scent of bay laurel in the air. The creek almost always has water, making
the first half of the hike a tranquil forest hike. Then about 2 miles up,
there is a junction with a very old road that is almost completely grown
over with the chaparral until it is narrow as a trail again. Mountainbikers
often use this road because it offers a challenge. We will probably turn
around at the two mile point, but if everyone's game, we can go further:!
Helpful hints: Be
sure to bring drinking water, and wear a hat.
Friends: Bring 'em
all!
Cost: None, except
for optional brunch after the hike, at a place we'll choose during the
hike.
Reservations: None
-- Rain cancels. |
